ART

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

What is ART?

ART is the acronym for Accelerated Resolution Therapy. This is a form of psychotherapy with roots in existing evidence-based therapies, but is shown to achieve benefits more rapidly. ART is effective with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, panic disorders, PTSD, addiction, abuse and various other mental health conditions. ART is NOT hypnosis.

ART is not suitable for all clients and carries the same clinical concerns as other trauma-focused therapies. A comprehensive clinical intake interview will be conducted before proceeding with ART in order to establish rapport, and gain a clear understanding of the key concerns and goals of treatment, life traumas/stressors, diagnoses, co-morbidities (physical, mental, substance use), and bio-psychosocial dynamics.

How does it work?

The process itself is very straightforward, using relaxing eye movements and a technique called Voluntary Memory/Image Replacement to change the way in which negative images are stored in the brain. The client is always in control of the entire ART session, with the therapist guiding the process.

ART is research-based and there is scientific evidence of its effectiveness. The treatment is grounded in well-established psychotherapy techniques, and the end result is that traumas and difficult life experiences will no longer trigger strong emotions or physical reactions. Notably, clients do not have to discuss their traumas or difficult life experiences with the therapist to achieve recovery.
